SRAM Rival 1 HRD Hydraulic Disc Brake Overview

The SRAM Rival 1 HRD Hydraulic Disc Brake combines an ergonomic drop-bar brake lever with a Flat Mount front caliper and 950mm hydraulic hose.

This exact version is the left/front brake and has no shifting function. Therefore, it works particularly well as the left-hand control in SRAM 1x road, gravel and cyclocross drivetrains.

SRAM’s HydroR design provides strong stopping power with controlled modulation and relatively low hand effort. In addition, Reach Adjust lets the rider set the lever position to suit their hand size and preferred riding position.

Braking Performance

The Rival 1 HRD system delivers strong hydraulic braking while keeping lever effort relatively low. Its two-piston caliper provides controlled braking for road, gravel and cyclocross riding.

Meanwhile, the hydraulic system gives the rider useful modulation. As a result, braking force can be applied progressively rather than feeling abrupt.

HydroR Ergonomics

SRAM designed the HydroR lever around improved hand comfort and control on drop handlebars. The lever and hood shape provide a secure position from both the hoods and drops.

In addition, the lever uses Reach Adjust. Therefore, riders can position the lever closer to or further from the handlebar to suit different hand sizes.

DOT 5.1™

The Rival 1 HRD brake uses DOT 5.1 hydraulic fluid.

DOT 5.1 provides strong resistance to high temperatures. As a result, the brake can maintain more consistent performance during longer or harder braking periods.
