SunRace MZ800 12-Speed Cassette Overview

The SunRace MZ800 12-Speed Cassette combines a wide 11-51T gear range with standard Shimano HG freehub compatibility.

As a result, riders can run a modern 12-speed wide-range drivetrain without changing an existing compatible HG freehub to Micro Spline.

The cassette is designed for MTB and gravel use. Its 51T largest sprocket provides a low climbing gear for steep terrain, while the 11T smallest sprocket maintains useful gearing for faster sections.

In addition, SunRace uses steel sprockets with aluminium spiders and an aluminium lockring. This provides a durable construction while keeping the manufacturer’s weight to approximately 648g.

Gearing and Performance

The 11-51T range gives the MZ800 a broad spread of gears for mixed terrain.

For example, the 51T largest sprocket provides lower gearing for steep climbs. Meanwhile, the smaller sprockets allow efficient riding on flatter and faster sections.

SunRace also uses its Fluid Drive Plus design to support smooth and controlled gear changes.

Shimano HG Freehub Compatibility

One of the main benefits of the MZ800 is its HG-Spline fitment.

Many Shimano 12-speed MTB cassettes use Micro Spline because they start with a 10T sprocket. However, the MZ800 starts with an 11T sprocket, which allows it to fit a conventional Shimano HG-M freehub body.

Therefore, it can be a useful option when upgrading to 12-speed while retaining a compatible existing rear wheel or freehub.

It can also be used in suitable 12-speed gravel setups where the rear derailleur supports the required 51T largest sprocket.
