Shimano XT M8120 Boost Crankset Overview

The Shimano XT M8120 Boost Crankset combines 175mm crank arms with a 30T direct-mount chainring for 1×12-speed mountain bike drivetrains. This is brand new, unused OE stock supplied without original packaging.

Designed specifically around 148mm Boost rear spacing, the FC-M8120-1 uses a 55mm chainline and 178mm Q-factor. Therefore, it provides the extra clearance required by compatible Boost mountain bike frames.

Shimano uses hollow-forged crank construction to balance stiffness with low weight. As a result, the crankset transfers pedalling power efficiently while remaining suitable for aggressive trail riding.

The included 30T direct-mount chainring also uses Shimano’s MTB-specific tooth profile. Consequently, it improves chain engagement and retention when riding over rough or technical terrain.

Performance & Design

The hollow crank arms provide high rigidity without unnecessary weight. Therefore, more of the rider’s effort transfers directly through the drivetrain during climbs and hard accelerations.

In addition, the direct-mount chainring system keeps the construction simple and stiff. It also allows the chainring to be replaced with another compatible Shimano direct-mount size when gearing requirements change.

Meanwhile, the 30T chainring provides a useful climbing-oriented ratio for steep and technical trails. Combined with Shimano’s chain-retention tooth profile, it helps keep the drivetrain secure when the terrain becomes rough.
