Shimano EP6 DU-EP600 Motor Overview

The Shimano EP6 DU-EP600 Motor is a 250W mid-drive unit designed to deliver natural and responsive e-bike assistance with up to 85Nm of torque. It supports assistance up to 25km/h and combines strong off-road performance with expanded system connectivity.

This motor is supplied without original packaging and remains in its factory settings. Depending on the bike’s existing configuration, it may work plug-and-play. However, programming is likely to be required before use.

A Shimano dealer can configure the motor to the bike’s specification. Alternatively, specialist services such as STUnlocker may allow configuration at home.

Shimano developed the EP6 to offer performance comparable to the EP8 at a more accessible price point. At the same time, it retains the same 85Nm maximum torque for demanding climbs and technical riding.

Performance and Connectivity

The EP6 uses intelligent sensors to deliver smooth assistance that responds naturally to rider input. Therefore, it works well on technical climbs, flowing trails and everyday riding.

Its 85Nm maximum torque provides strong support when gradients increase. Meanwhile, the motor remains compact and relatively light at around 3.0kg.

In addition, Shimano added CAN and ACC connections to expand system integration. The motor also works with Shimano’s second-generation battery management system.

With compatible DEORE XT Di2 components, the EP6 can support FREE SHIFT and AUTO SHIFT functions. As a result, the drivetrain can offer more advanced electronic shifting options.

Riders can also customise assistance through the E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist app. Fine Tune mode provides additional control over the motor’s support characteristics.
